Good Friends and Good Shopping

Today was a good day.  I took the day off and traveled to OKC to spend the day with my BFF and do some shopping.  She is currently in medical school but this is spring break week, so she had some free time.  I had not seen her since my wedding in September.

As usual, we picked right up catching up on each others lives and the general goings on of other friends.  We spent hours scouring Penn Square Mall for stylish clothes and good deals.  Stylish clothes abound, as most retailers have recently put out their spring lines.  J. Crew and The Limited in particular have some items I would love to own, but alas, there was not much to speak of for good deals.

I did discover Aldo Accessories (we have Aldo Shoes in Tulsa, but not Aldo Accessories) which turned out to be the home of my first purchase of the day, two new necklaces.  I tried to find images online from their site, but they did not have the two that I bought.  One has three chains, each with a key, heart and bird.  I intended from the purchase to clip the chain with the key trinket because it was jeweled and looked cheap to me, but I think I a may even cut the heart chain as well, and just leave the bird.  Bird designs seem to be coming into style these days, and I think I would like it better as one long chain as opposed to two or three.  More thought will go into that decision, since I can’t put it back once I cut it off.

Ballet flats were the highlight of the day, I came home with three pairs and am still contemplating a fourth. My purchases came from Payless and Charlotte Russe, and the still undecided pair is also from Payless, from the Lela Rose collection.  While extremely cute, $30 is just too much to spend on shoes at Payless, so if the price comes down, I will likely go back and get them.  They are on sale online, however.

A few other random items were purchased, but I did miss out on some things I specifically had in mind, like a classic cardigan for the winter to spring transition.  And some cute new sleepwear, as mentioned in the last post.  The Dillards at Penn Square did not carry Honeydew.  I did find a simple yet stylish patent nude pump by Steve Madden (the Ulltra) that I hope to find discounted online.  $70 while reasonable, is still out of my price range.  What can I say, I am cheap!

We ended the day at a local sushi restaurant, Sushi Neko, on Western that was delish.  Another good friend who lives in the city that I haven’t seen in a few months met us there and it was a great end to a great day.

Of course, I had to drive home two hours, but it was not so bad.  I purchased “The Art of Happiness” by His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Dr. Howard Cutler as an audiobook for the trip.  It ended when I was about ten minutes from my house.  It was an interesting ‘listen’ and I intend to write at least one post about it, after I listen to it again.

I also was able to slip in a great yoga practice before I left for the city.  It included holding headstand for about 10 to 15 seconds, although with my knees bent.  So all in all, it was a fabulous day.  Now, if only I didn’t have to go back to work tomorrow!

LC Lauren Conrad

I have never been a fan of Lauren Conrad. I never watched The Hills or whatever show she was on. I don’t even know if it was The Hills. But I know it was one of those reality shows with rich girls and I just cannot stomach that kind of television. So really I could care less about her. But let me just say that I love, LOVE, her clothing line for Kohls.

Kohls is one of those places a cheap girl loves to shop, but the truth is it can be difficult to find cute, classic, long-lasting clothes there. The LC Lauren Conrad collection, however, is an exception. Of course I cannot really comment on the true quality or how long the pieces will last at this point, but the styles were superb. The pieces were stylish without being obvious one season pieces. Some styles I just cannot get into because I know they won’t last past the current season. The LC collection did not have that feel to it. There were dresses, tops, jackets, and jeans. The jeans really did not do that much for me, but I loved everything else. I was only able to purchase one top (pictured below) but I cannot wait for my next 30% off coupon so I can go get more!

The floral tunic I purchased fits great and is super soft.  I love it!  Also, there are more and different items in the stores, so definitely check it out in person, not just online. Click here for LC at Kohls online.

My next purchases will likely be the ruffled cami and leather jacket.

The Black Caged Heel

Next to the nude ruffle t-strap pump, the shoe I want the most right now is the black caged heel. Oh how I want it. They are stylish and sexy. Mostly sexy, which is why I love them. The Beverly Feldman’s are my favorite from the options below, but I just can’t spend that much on shoes. In my usual frugal style, I will likely end up with the Inferno pair.

Jimmy Choo ‘Quito’ at Nordstrom – $995

Beverly Feldman ‘Inferno’ at Amazon – $209

Dolce Vita ‘Victoria’ at Zappos– $127 (Sale)

Steve Madden ‘Caged’ at Zappos – $84 (Sale)

Inferno21 Caged Heel at Amazon – $26

T-Strap Ruffle Pump Update

In my last post about nude pumps I showed options for the nude T-strap ruffle pump, knock-offs of the Christian Louboutin I really want. Surprisingly this style of shoe is hard to find. I would have expected many more copies, but most are too far from the original style. They are more like the Miss Me pumps I have pictured below, which are my least fave of that group. But in my search for the perfect nude t-strap ruffle pump, I have discovered the Dollhouse Soleil pump. I like the style just as much as the Louboutin. And, it is reasonalby priced, only $55 direct from The problem? It doesn’t come in nude. Gah! Why would they not make this amazing shoe in a nude color? Someone, please explain. So, do I get the super cute Dollhouse pump in a different color and settle for another style of nude pump? Decisions, decisions….

Pictured below is the pewter color, but there is a really great blue as well.

UPDATE!! These are currently on sale at $30 or $35 depending on color. And… the ruffle is removeable. That makes them two shoes in one!! What could be better!

Dollhouse Soleil Pump at ($55)

Nude Pumps

My recent obsession with fashion and fashion blogs has led to me a great burning desire for the perfect nude pump. Everyone (and by everyone I mean all the fashion bloggers I follow) say nude pumps are THE shoe for 2010. The shoe that every girl must own or be shunned from all things fashionable for the year. Therefore, I must find the perfect pair. Of course for me, perfect not only means incredibly cute and fashionable but also reasonably priced. Like, under $75, but preferably closer to $40. So I am on the hunt. I have exhausted all of my ‘cheap’ shoe stores (JC Pennys, Target, Kohls, Charlotte Russe, etc.) with no luck. The hunt continues, now to the interwebs. Although I really prefer to purchase things in town, especially shoes that I want to try on to ensure the fit and comfort.

I am debating between the basic, classic round toe pump style, or the more in-style T-strap with ruffles. I am leaning heavily towards the t-strap, because they are just so cute. But I have learned it is important to not just find something that is ‘the style’ but that gets ‘the style’ right. Once you figure that out, you realize how many knock-offs are done really poorly.

Here are my options, let me know what you think!

The original Christian Louboutin t-strap ruffle pump (the one I cannot afford, but am trying to copy). I first saw this shoe on The Cheap Chica’s blog, article and pic here.

Newport News Ruffle Pump recommended in the above linked article by the Cheap Chica ($49)

Miss Me Women’s Garnett 8 Pump from ($40)

Vince Camuto Marcia Pump from ($118)

Cognac Boots

Probably the best attire purchase I have made this year has been my cognac boots. I first discovered the option of cognac while reading Capital Hill Style, my favorite fashion blog. See the original post here. If Belle was a fan of the cognac boot and said I could wear them with black, then I was sold. Admittedly, I followed my usual cheap fashion M.O. and purchased a pair from Rack Room Shoes for $30, but still I love them. In fact, I love them so much, I probably wear them too much. Another of my fashion missteps, I’m sure.  This is what mine look like:  (Picture from Rack Room Shoes Online)

I discovered my best friend also recently purchased a pair of cognac boots. Only hers are real Italian leather and cost $500. Darn if that doesn’t make me feel like mine are inadequate. But that is okay. She is in med school and can afford them. She posted a pic on Facebook. Here is what hers look like:

Not quite the same, but for the sake of being frugal, I am perfectly happy with my pair.
